Drowning

And you watched me.

You watched me drowning. Watched my life slipping away, inch by inch.
Did your heart beat a little faster?
I screamed your name, fought the waves slipping like silk between my fingers.
Did you hear me screaming?

My vision blurred, my lungs filled with salt and water.
My lungs ached, burning with every swallow and gasp.
I sputtered, flailing and reaching.
Did you even care?

You watched me dying. My mortal coils shed in layers of sanity.
Did you caress your own skin to make sure you still lived?
I cursed your name, fighting heavy chains tied to weakening limbs.
Did you kiss the key to the locks?

And you watched me.
