Stupid Man

She walked away, slowly, like in those music videos.
She prayed he would plead with her to turn around.
No sound.

He stood there, watched her go, slow motion stop.
He prayed she'd turn around, stop where she was.
No last glance.

She stops in the door-way, letting the tears fall.
He sees her stop, knows this is his last chance.
But he lets her go, his pride won't let him touch her.

Stupid boy.
You just let her slip through your fingers,
let her leave you behind.

Stupid boy.
When will you learn to hold on to what you love?
When will you grow up and be a man?

She walks away, slowly, hoping for him to stop her.
She prays that he'll ask her to stay, say he loves her.
Nothing.

He stands there, frozen, watching her leave him.
He prays she will turn around, run into his arms.
Nothing.

Stupid Man.
You grew up, or so you thought, only to lose her.
Letting her slip through the cracks.

Stupid Man.
All he ever wanted to say was that he loved her,
but he choked on the words.

Stupid Man.
